1. Scope of this policy
This policy explains how SIT Technology Limited, trading as SIT Recycling (“we”, “us” or “our”), uses cookies, browser local storage, session storage and similar technologies on this website and the customer portal.
Cookies are small text files. Local storage and session storage are browser features that can store information on your device. UK privacy rules can apply to all of these technologies, not only traditional cookies.
Back to top2. Your choices
You can choose:
- Essential only – optional analytics and campaign attribution remain off; or
- Allow all – optional measurement and campaign attribution may operate as described below.
Continuing to browse is not treated as consent. You can change your choice at any time using the Cookie settings button in the footer. Withdrawing consent does not make earlier lawful processing unlawful. It prevents future optional storage and measurement; you may also need to clear existing cookies through your browser.
Back to top3. Current technology inventory
| Name | Type and purpose | When used | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|---|
sit_recycling_cookie_choice_v2 | Local storage. Remembers whether you selected “essential” or “all”, so the site can honour your choice. | Essential; saved after you make a choice. | Until you change the choice or clear site data. |
wordpress_test_cookie | WordPress cookie. Checks whether the browser accepts cookies so sign-in can work. | Essential; set on the WordPress sign-in page. | Session. |
wordpress_logged_in_[hash] | WordPress authentication cookie. Keeps a registered user signed in to the customer portal. | Essential; after successful sign-in. | Normally the session; up to 14 days if “Remember me” is selected. |
wordpress_sec_[hash] and wordpress_[hash] | WordPress security and authentication cookies used for HTTPS-protected account areas and administration. | Essential; after successful sign-in where applicable. | Normally the session; up to 14 days if “Remember me” is selected. |
wp-settings-[user_id] and wp-settings-time-[user_id] | WordPress preference cookies that preserve interface settings for a registered user. | Essential/functional; for signed-in users where WordPress sets them. | Usually up to 1 year. |
sit_campaign_attribution | First-party campaign cookie. May store limited campaign parameters, landing path and referring page to understand which consented campaign led to an enquiry. | Optional; only after “Allow all” and where campaign attribution is enabled. | 90 days. |
sit_marketing_[event]… | Session storage. Prevents the same consented measurement event being counted repeatedly during one browsing session. | Optional; only after “Allow all” and when measurement is enabled. | Session. |
_ga and _ga_[container-id] | Google Analytics cookies used to distinguish visits and produce website usage statistics. | Optional; only after “Allow all” and only if GA4 or Google Tag Manager has been configured. These identifiers were not configured in the theme on the date of this policy. | Up to 2 years if enabled; the exact duration is controlled by the configured Google service. |
Current configuration note: on 31 August 2026, the V6.4.2 theme exposed no GA4 measurement ID or Google Tag Manager ID and marked measurement as disabled. The consent control and optional attribution mechanism were present. This table must be reviewed whenever WordPress, a plugin, embedded media, chat, analytics, advertising or another third-party service is added or reconfigured.
Back to top4. Why we use these technologies
- Strictly necessary: to provide secure sign-in, protect accounts, remember your privacy choice and deliver a feature you requested.
- Preferences: to remember interface settings for registered users.
- Measurement: to understand how people use the site and improve journeys, content and performance.
- Campaign attribution: to understand which consented campaign or referring page led to an enquiry.
Where UK GDPR applies, optional analytics and campaign data are processed on the basis of consent. Essential account and security data are processed as necessary to provide requested functionality, perform a contract or pursue our legitimate interests in operating a secure service, depending on the context. Our Privacy Notice provides more information about personal data and your rights.
Back to top5. Third parties and international transfers
If Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager is configured later, Google may receive device, browser and usage information when you have consented. Google acts under its own contractual and privacy terms and may process information outside the United Kingdom using applicable safeguards.
We will not treat this policy as advance permission for an undisclosed third-party technology. Before enabling a new non-essential provider, we should update the inventory, name the provider in the consent information and ensure the technology remains blocked until valid consent or another lawful PECR exception applies.
Back to top6. Browser controls
Most browsers let you view, block and delete cookies or clear site data. Blocking essential authentication cookies will prevent customer-portal sign-in. Browser settings operate separately from our Cookie settings control.
Back to top7. Changes and contact
We will update this policy when the deployed technology or legal requirements change. Questions may be sent through our contact page, or by calling 07459 076145.
